August 1 ,2003 and nothing is what it seems, how would your reality change? What effect do your assumptions about how the world works have on the meaning you give your life? --The "If..." Project Well, in order to stay as true to what this is asking as I can, I guess I should first go through my assumptions as to the way the world works. Or should I start with the meaning I give my life? I think, since I am not entirely certain how the world works--I think it is rather random. The meaning I give on my life. What does my life mean? I think I am here to do something, something fairly important. I often wonder how many other people feel like that and end up accomplishing nothing? Did they accomplish nothing because they didn't live up to their destiny? Or did they simply have nothing to accomplish and think that they did? Right now, my life is trivial. But, there are times when I do not feel so, the times that I am feeding my spiritual self and attempting to ignore the side of me concerned over material things. So, the meaning I give my life now, is trivial. Which could go to say that my assumption about the way things work in the world is that you have to work hard to get what you want, you have to be the best, or as close to the best as you can get. There are those that are meant to do something, but never do a thing. Should there also be those with no important destiny that make one for themselves anyway? My life right now is trivial by those definitions, because I am not working hard enough at the paths I feel inside are the ones that will make my future important. Or am I just delusional? Too much fiction this is the main character who has something important to accomplish illusions? If things were turned upside down from the way I think the world works, I think I would end up very unhappy. My accomplishments wouldn't be accomplishments, they would have been too easy. I couldn't claim anything. But then again, if everything were in fact turned upside down, then my assumption that those who are handed everything on a silver platter end up unsatisfied and unfulfilled, would be wrong too. Instead, nobody would have to work for anything and we would all be laid back happy people as a result. Those who work hard, would get nothing, all their work would be in vain. Surely such people would eventually realize it is easier to not work at all to accomplish your goals. We would eventually run out of unique things to accomplish, in the real world, but if the world got turned upside down, then there will always be even newer things to succeed in, will the old then become trivial? As trivial as it would be for a school age child to be able to sing their abc's for the fifth time. Graduating from Harvard? Everyone's done that, it's no different from a child who's said their abc's for the fifth time. In such a world, what could possibly be accomplished that would make things like graduating from harvard so trivial? I think that is best left up to the imagination. Preferably someone else's (It's not exactly my imagination's cup of tea ^_~).
