An Ordinary Day
May 24, 2003

I worked until midnight last night. When I got home, I caught up on my email and did some other computer related things. Just before I tossed off to bed, I took the time to actually light the candle I bought for my GGrandmother (not a typo=Great Grandmother), and to direct my thoughts on her and the Cherokee people. I need to start doing that on a nightly basis. So far I've only done it four times.

I was told, by an old native american woman, from which tribe I know not, that if I wanted to know the grandmother I'd always been so curious about, that all I had to do was light a candle for her, keep it on its own shelf with a crystal of some kind, and tobacco nearby--and to write her name on a piece of paper and stick it under the candle. I know, might sound crazy to some, but if I never get to meet her, I still like the idea of honoring her this way, keeping her alive in a memory sadly deprived of images. At the same time, as the candle burns, I read things about the Cherokee (Tsalagi) people, study the words and phrases I've been able to get of the language. I promised myself last night that I would make this a nightly ritual.

Today...today has been ordinary so far. I plan to go the library and pay my past due fees, check out a few books for my son, go to the mall to get my son a haircut, and see if the book I ordered, "Forest For the Trees: An Editor's Advice to Writers," is in. If I have time I may take my son to the local "Playground For Everyone" which is the nicest playground in town that has a huge set up for ages 5 and up, and a slightly smaller, but still decent sized set up for 1-4 year olds, a water dragon that spouts water like a fancy giant-sized sprinkler, huge sandbox, wheel chair accessible, this has turned into a run-on, but you get the point kind of park. ^_~ I have to go to work at 5pm though, and it is now noon. Better get going.

I'm feeling kind of ho-hum today

My son is feeling happy and delighted

We are listening/watching Baby Shakespeare

And I can't wait to start my day.

...Hopefully I can get some writing in ^_^"
