My Wedding Fyal
Jun 16, 2009

This is loooooooooooooooooooong overdue, but I promised my old friend Domy a picture of the very first fyal. In her awesome work in progress, there is a culture of elven-like (there are some differences) peoples and a small part of their culture makes use of symbolic strings of beads that are worn in the hair. Many have more than one in their hair and each string (sometimes even each bead) says something about the individual. It is said that no two fyal are exactly alike and this culture typically knows at least the general meaning behind someone else's fyal (because certain beads mean certain things).

I'm not that great at making jewelry, but I really wanted to wear a wedding fyal and also keep it to symbolize such an important day in my life. This thing was harder than it looks and I purposefully cut out the big clunky tie of glued clear string on the end of it. I spent almost the whole day before my wedding making this string of beads while/inbetween visiting with my family and making other last minute preparations. I also talked with Domynoe on the phone while making it and I promised she'd get to see it. I believe I also said I'd make one for her. Things I didn't remember until I rediscovered her journal post on it (though she made no mention of me making her one). Either way, once I can find some decent beads in her favourite colour (and confirm that it is burgundy), I'll have to think of a theme for her first fyal.

One thing about this little sucker. The Lyanthry (race/culture from which fyal originate) are described as wearing strings of beads they create themselves. I never was clear on how they wore them in their hair, I always sort of thought they got woven in with their hair. I was completely unable to figure out how to do that and I wanted to keep the fyal passed that point so I attached the string to a barrette...one that keeps sliding out of my hair ><

Anywho, without further ado, here it is:
