Mid-term Panic!
Oct 9, 2003

Those words go quite well together for most people, but the usual connotation of the situation behind them are not so in my case. A few days ago, we had our midterm in Anthropology. The Course Content list said it was from Oct 6-7, with all the other tests and assigments, that would mean that the test goes offline (It's an online course) at midnight on the 7th. Not so with the midterm here. I logged on just in time to get 2 hours of the 2 and 1/2 hours test time available, ONLY to find out that I had MISSED the midterm!

Yep. It turns out that our Weekly Update (which after thoroughly reading the first two of I'd assumed were just class newsletters with info in them that you would already know if you looked at the website regularly--which I do) said that the midterm goes offline at noon on the 7th! I was in tears, really I was. I wrote a panicked letter to the professor, then I found out that it was mostly my own fault I had missed it (I'll make it a point from now on to take the updates seriously) and wrote him another letter telling him that it was my fault, I just read the weekly update rather than skimming it as I had before and so I guess I'll have to deal with missing the midterm (I was still in tears though).

I waited on pins and needles for him to write me back and either confirm that I had missed it or take pity on me and tell me he would make it live again for a certain time. Nearly 24-hours later, I got a message telling me to pick a time in the next few days and he would make it live for me! Yay! *Does a happy kitty dance* I wrote him a message back expressing several times I was available for his convenience, and only one specific time (today at noon). He asked for a specific time but I was worried noon might be too early, so I gave him a specific time and said if it was too early I could take it during the following times.

I just finished the midterm not long ago and I think I did pretty good on it. I still had 49 minutes left to finish it when I finished it. I'm so happy. Thanks Jen and Gheldar for your support!

I was chatting with Jen when I found out that the test went offline and she sympathsized and sided with me in the unfairness of it all. Gheldar was over visiting and he had to go out to Walmart for a moment, he came back after getting some groceries and gave me a very sweet smelling peach-colored rose to cheer me up. I know there was another person who would have helped me through it, but I didn't bother her. She was online, she would have been available for sympathy, but she's got enough of her own problems. I would rather her read this and know that I think I did well on a midterm I almost missed than have to worry about whether or not I was going to get to make it up. I think she knows who she is ^_~

So what's the significance? It's just a midterm right? Hehe...not so sure about that...I was just 1 point from an A before the midterm, if I had not been able to make it up, my grade would have went down to a 51% (and that's rounding it from 50.7). Needless to say, I think the words thank you so much appeared in the reply to my teacher more than anything else. LOL!
