Dean's List
Dec 10, 2003
I should be on the dean's list again for this semester. Although I ended up having to drop my College Algebra course. I've never had to work at a math class and so this one caught me off guard and I got so far behind that I could take the chance and come out with a B, possible, but hard, and would mean sacrificing all of my free time to devoutly studying algebra (with a job, a man that can act like a needy kid, and a two-year-old, that is a hard thing to do) or trying harder and getting a C (which would lower my GPA no matter what), or to drop the class and come at it again next semester, although now I learn that the counselor who told me I needed Calculus to get into the school I want, was reading the wrong section. To do what I want to major in, I just need so many college hours in math, which I could get simply by taking Survey of Stats and being done with it. Why did I trust the counselors enough to advise me right? I know they're cooky already. I almost went through three unnecessary math courses when I could just take one and be done with it.
My other plan worked out nicely too, even better than I had anticipated! It was yet another thing I had to argue with a counselor over the wisdom of it. I should just pick some random (and easiest) courses from the list of required ones to get what I need to have an Associates' degree. I argued that I should take certain classes because they are more in line with what I want to learn and go to school for. No, the counselor argues, that won't help you anymore than any other course. Well, I think I was pretty much right when I could take the three I picked because I saw connections with them and what I want to learn and lo and behold, what ends up happening? I am able to interchange information I learned in each class with the other classes I took on essays, complementing and complimenting the knowledge behing each class. No connection between Astronomy, Anthropology, and Fantasy and Mythology? Honestly! He was trying to make me take (modern!) French or Spanish as one of my electives because I said I want to eventually learn to translate ancient languages, and which ones I want to learn. I've taken French enough to get the basics, and spanish isn't much different, I've gotten a feel for the linguistics involved, and that's about all the connection they have with where I want to go.
Well, I have an A in Astronomy, I know that much, and I know I have an A or B in Anthropology and Fantasy and Mythology, I'm just waiting on the final grades. I would be so happy if both of those turned out to be A's but I have a feeling at least Fantasy and Mythology will be a B, because she takes participation heavily into account, I've missed quite a few of the last few days of class because the fiancé got his lisence back and apparently ignores me half the time when I tell him I need to take him to work in the morning because I need the car to go to school. *Rolls eyes* Men!
