Financially Curious
Nov 4, 2005
So, I have hit a point where I can definitely see that it is probably not worth my time to get a job with hours similar to Delos'. What I make while we're both gone, would all go to pay daycare, not to mention we really don't have the money to start Michael in daycare right now until the cashflow from my job kicks in. This means, if I am to be helpful financially so we can start saving money toward a house, I need to either get a job doing something from home or get a job second or third shift. If I get a job with different hours from Delos, I would want it to be part time, otherwise we'll hardly ever get to see each other and it will make our family seem more split to Michael who enjoys the time we all spend together.
Delos has said that I do not need to get a job right away and I can take as long as I need. I think he has hinted that I could even be a stay at home mom if I wanted to. I want a little independence though, I'd like to help bring in money without sacrificing family importance and valuable time together. I'm not entirely sure that I can get a part time job in the area that I have been so far--secretary/receptionist type work, at least part time at night. I was thinking part time at night at a book store wouldn't be so bad. I would want to try and have Thursdays and Fridays off like Delos of course.
This won't be so much of an issue when Michael starts going to school (hopefully next year), unless it does become possible that I can start home schooling him and still make money and have time for writing. This leads me to wondering about talents I have that can allow me to start making money at home, even if it is just little bits at first.
The first thing that comes to mind is my writing. Doing more than just producing and polishing stories but really get started writing articles with specific places is mind, really start pushing out the material and selling it. Treat it like it's a dream job and not a hobby I could make money at someday in the future.
The second thing that comes to mind, mostly as a supplement to the first, is tarot reading. If I brush up on my skills enough at tarot reading, get myself to professional level, is it possible for me to make some money on the side with that? I have been told by everyone I have read for that my readings are accurate, insightful and informative. The negative side to that, however, is that I don't feel right charging for spiritual guidance. The benefit to charging (besides profit, naturally) is that I'll be less likely than before to get stupid questions asked of the cards (like, "When am I going to get laid next"--And yes, someone actually asked that once). I would still not charge friends and family though, but I was thinking maybe word of mouth strangers given for me by friends and family. Delos says that they all refer their friends to someone who is really good and does it for free at all times. He suggested that we could put an ad in the paper though. We'll have to see, I need to brush up my tarot reading anyway, it's been too long.
I guess for now I'll take the writing/tarot card route while looking for a part-time job that sounds right. We'll see. I think my best bet would be to start getting my butt in gear working on all my shorts and poems and writing articles on what I know and articles intended for specific places and the like.
Of course, this will all be slow in the works since I've been sick lately. I actually spent most of today in bed and am about to go back. I hate being sick.
