Character Description
Physical Description:
Rena almost always wears a smile on her face, whether it's playful, happy, mischievious, smug or amused is up to the moment. Her strawberry-blonde hair is pulled into a stylishly messy bun, with a thin braid trailing from behind each ear to her hips. A small flight feather decorates the end of each braid, starting red at the base and blending into yellow at the tip. Her emerald eyes twinkle playfully, calling attention to her most unusual feature. Unlike other humans, Rena's eyes have no pupils, instead, a dark green spiral swirls toward the center, lending a slightly hypnotic quality if one stares too long. When in close contact with her one catches, a noticeable, though not overpowering, scent of oil and machinery, weakened significantly by the smell of fresh air (similar to the blend of refreshing scents one might experience while walking through the elven forests where Rena spends a great deal of her time).
Voice
The pitch of Rena's voice is best described as cute, without being annoying. If she were to sing you'd likely hear a lower soprano...but don't ask her to sing! It's not her forté and can occasionally be off key, her singing voice might have been cute when she was 7, but not anymore. She bears an obvious accent, making it very difficult for her to pronounce common sounds like "th" she does not have as big a problem with "ch" and "sh", though none of those sounds exist in her native tongue. She also will occasionally switch her d and t sounds, her short i (as in "in") and short e (as in "hen") sounds. She also pronounces almost all of her a's the same way, rarely using the short a sound (as in "cat"), for the most part pronouncing them as short o's (as in "ball").
Personality
Renawyn is upbeat and not afraid to speak her mind, normally doing so without reservation, even if what she's saying makes sense only to herself. She is an outgoing and very happy-go-lucky individual who puts a lot of energy into everything she does. She has a tendency to take missions and objectives seriously, but not without a sense of fun and humor overall. Many have dismissed her as frivolous, but they do not take the time to discover the deeper individual underneath. She has a tendency to be very loyal to those she cares for and is good at cheering people up (those who don't like the ever-cheerful may find her annoying). "She's extremely loving and affectionate; you can always count on Rikku for support. This is evident by the way she talks to people when they're upset and by her actions towards others. Rikku is the type of person to give you a hug when you're depressed, even if she's never seen you before. Rikku is very selfless and constantly puts others before herself." She hates stereotypes, discrimination and prejudice, and dislikes when others follow beliefs blindly, without thinking for themselves.
History
Prelude to Azeroth
Renawyn was born under the name Rikku into an outcast society called the Al Bhed on the world known as Spira. Her home world is plagued by a dangerous being known as "Sin" along with the vengeful spirits of its victims and various spawn from it's core being known as "fiends" and "sin spawn." (Sin generally appears as a large, watery and formless blob, bigger than any city, its fiends taking on various forms of all kinds.) Her people are more or less reviled as heathens for ignoring the religious teachings of Yevon, the path believed to finally rid the world of Sin. The Al Bhed rely heavily on machina (machines), something forbidden by Yevon as a beacon that draws Sin. No stranger to prejudice and discrimination from the other races of Spira, Rikku worked to restore respect for her people, directly opposing herself to the blind followers of Yevon.
She begins this by helping her father, Cid, kidnap Summoners, religious priests of Yevon who summon Aeons to fight Sin and its fiends, while "sending" the spirits of its victims to a peaceful rest, preventing them from becoming fiends as well. All Summoners go on their pilgrimages with a guardian or set of guardians to learn to summon aeons of increasing power, hoping to one day summon the final aeon to bring a "Calm" or a long period of time without Sin. The drawback being that the final summoning has always killed the summoner performing it. Rikku believes that Sin can be defeated for good without a summoner having to give up their life for it.
Her chance to become actively involved in proving this comes when she discovers that her own cousin, Yuna, has become a Summoner and began her pilgrimage. Expectations are high for Yuna, who is the daughter of the last Summoner to defeat Sin. Rikku actively seeks to kidnap Yuna, with the help of Cid, to keep her cousin safe from the ultimate sacrifice. However, she eventually realizes just how determined Yuna is and eventually convinces her father, Cid, to help, and swears herself as one of Yuna's guardians. While she doesn't believe in the blind faith in Yevon that most guardians and summoners swear to (and would never turn her back on Al Bhed ways and join the religious movement herself), she does have the determination to keep Yuna safe until the final summoning, and she hopes to keep her from dying during it as well.
The youngest of Yuna's guardians (at 15 years old), she looks up to Guardian Lulu (her poise and calm make Rikku want to be as elegant when she grows up) and is occasionally dismissed by others. She was once almost refused to be allowed into a temple with the rest of the guardians because of her heritage (as a "heathen"). The only one, besides Yuna (who is only half Al Bhed, without the tell-tale swirled eyes), that she really connected with was Guardian Tidus, who claimed to be from the holy city of Zanarkand that was destroyed thousands of years prior in the first appearance of Sin. She is even at one point reviled by Guardian Wakka after he finds out she is an Al Bhed. During the pilgrimage they discover just how deep the corruption and deceit goes among the leaders and followers of Yevon's teachings, helping to alleviate some of the attitude against Rikku.
(And enter the time-rift of alternate realities)
During the final battle against Sin, a shimmering rip in mid-air appears and, distracted by it, Sin is able to descend on Rikku, swallowing her into oblivion...
Once Upon a Time in Azeroth
While hunting on the coasts of Ashenvale, Niartnelis Ethala'aman spies a motionless body in the stormy ocean waters of the Zoram Strand. Without much thought he dives into the water and pulls a half-drowned Rikku from the waters and drags her to shore. He knows only enough to expel the water from her and bring her into the small village near Astranaar where he and his family reside, letting the priests of Elune do the rest.
Rikku spends the next 5 years among the kaldorei, learning common (as they will not fully teach her their own language), and the ways of this world. She is taken under-wing by Lesara, Niartnelis' sister, for the largest part. Rikku does her part to learn all that she can, her cousin and the other guardians constantly driving her to become independent in this new world, in the hopes of either finding them, or finding her way back home to save Yuna. In the process she does all that she can to repay the kindness shown her by the kaldorei, eventually earning herself quite the reputation with them.
In a combination of good luck, good timing, and skill, Rikku is able to perform a great service to the Kaldorei (at about 19, three years and a few months after arriving), which calls the attention of Tyrande. Rikku is made an honorary kaldorei of sorts and given a truesilver, crescent moon necklace, along with a renaming ceremony in honor of her new status as an adopted kaldorei. She was also sworn to secrecy for the nature of the deed and anything having to deal with it, in the best interests of everyone. It was then that everyone stopped calling her Rikku and began to call her Renawyn Taralom ("Fortunate Outworlder").
For a time she organized a group of people she called the "Outworlders." She began to realize that she was not the only person from another world that had come to Azeroth. She organized this band as a house to all those who had none on Azeroth, hoping to provide shelter and guidance, fellowship and understanding. The house lasted for nearly half a year before Renawyn gave up hope and disbanded it. She continues to offer such things to those from other worlds, but she could no longer stand befriending and losing another Outworlder, trying to keep the cause together with little to no help.
She had resigned herself to traveling Azeroth without a true sense of home or belonging when she ran into yet another Sunpath Rider, exemplifying an honorable and likeable personality. First it was Niburu, then it was two in the deadmines whose names she could no longer recall, and finally Kelindar, who passed on his leader's name when asked. She resolved to speak with the leader of this house, and sought out Shandala, promptly being invited to join their anniversary fire and share in their company that night. Though late, Renawyn attended the fire and less than a week later, saw herself accepted into their house officially.
To this day she still travels all over Azeroth, loyal to the kaldorei and her new house, doing all she can for them. Although she still searches for signs of her cousin and the other guardians, she has not been as active in searching for a way home. Although she wishes for Spira to be saved, to know of Yuna's fate, to see her family again, to see her friends, she cannot turn her back on the new conflicts she has found in Azeroth. More importantly, she feels that, although her destiny is her own, there is a reason that she finds herself on Azeroth and suspects she will likely not be going home until her business here is finished, whatever it is.
Present Day
Rena has recently allied herself with the Sunpath Riders, traveling under their banner, sharing their goals and ideals. Most of the time she is off on missions she remains vague about, though she is always available to help when called. She has recently volunteered for the armed forces of the Silverwing Sentinels in an effort to save the Ashenvale forests from the destructive deforesting of the orcs. She still seeks news of Yuna or one of the other guardians and has added the search for another to her list. The night elf who pulled her from the ocean has gone missing, causing Lesara, his sister, great distress. Mostly she keeps herself busy with missions, hoping to run into information on the way.
Animal friends/pets
Tyngsuuh

A constant companion since Renawyn's 40th season, Tyngsuuh, like all of the large riding sabers, runs from combat. Despite this training, Tyngsuuh is very loyal and often, when Renawyn sleeps outdoors, he curls around her, providing pillow and warmth while watching over her protectively.
Glitchy

Renawyn built glitchy using gnomish plans as a guide early in her 25th season, the little mechanical squirrel is so life-like that Rena treats him as such. He even has a curious personality too!
Lida

This beautiful little fearie dragon was given to Rena by a night elf after she worked hard to liberate many of its elders from captivity by taurens. The spunky little hatchling was so cute that Rena could think of no other name for her. "Lida" is the Al Bhed word for cute.
