Azeroth's Final Fantasy 1.0
Jun 29, 2007
A torrent of rain stung her skin all over as Rena grasped at a nearby pole, trying not to lose her balance as the deck rocked beneathe her feet. It was as though someone had taken her from a peaceful, dreamless sleep and plopped her into the middle of a raging tempest at sea. She couldn’t remember how she had gotten there, what she should do, or even where she was.
In her desperate search for the peace she had known before, for somewhere safe, she spied a figure in a doorway. The fear of the storm was chased quickly away by a panicked terror. She wanted to tear her eyes from the face before she could make it out. Yet, at the same time, she felt a pressured force of calm in her mind, as though a giant hand were attempting to pick her up and shield her into the safety of a cage. The mixture of fear and desire for the peace she had known warred with one another, but as she began to drift back into oblivion, she was struck hard by a wall of water and lost her grip on the pole. With no deck below her feet and nothing to grab hold of, she was tossed overboard. Rena fought with the waves. The angry waters smashed into her, determined to drag her down and keep her with them. Unable to stay above the surface, her lungs were invaded by the waters as the sea sought to claim her.
Rena bolted upright in the bed and drew in a long and deep gasping breath. Her hands clutched at the air, at last finding purchase on the wooden footboard of her bed. She gripped it so tight her knuckles turned white and her fingers began to ache. Her mind was blank with the terror and she simply sat in bed, panting.
Lesara came running in shortly. “Rena? Ren are you okay?”
Rena didn’t answer, she couldn’t force any thoughts into her head, she barely even realized she was being spoken to. All she could fear was that something had grabbed hold of her and had yet to stop squeezing.
Lesara sat beside her, at the foot of the bed and placed a warm hand over one of Rena’s. Soothing Darnassian words called Rena’s thoughts back and she looked from her hands to Lesara’s face. Finally, the grip on her mind buckled and thoughts began to slowly form again.
“What is it sister?” Lesara’s long and pointed kaldorei ears flattened against her platinum hair, her brow furrowed and she idly ran her long fingers through Rena’s hair as though she were a young child.
Unable to answer, Rena collapsed into her arms and sobbed herself back to sleep.
