Miki-chan's Sestina
February 19 ,2003
Miki-chan no Sestina
My heart pounds hard with angst.
I smooth hair from your face.
Could I live without you?
You hold all of my love.
My little Miki-chan,
Your smile warms my soul.
Deep fear squeezes this soul,
Brown hair turns gray from angst.
My precious Miki-chan,
Look at your sleeping face...
Know nothing keeps my love,
From giving all for you.
I live my life for you,
For we are joined in soul,
A profound, binding love,
A cause to feel great angst,
I see your trusting face,
Sleep, dreaming Miki-chan.
Named special, Miki-chan,
Nickname unique as you.
Tears falling down my face,
For worries of my soul,
I've never felt such angst!
There is no stronger love.
Such pure agape love,
I give you Miki-chan,
I cannot shake my angst,
The thought of losing you.
Your life entwines my soul.
I gaze upon your face.
Fingers caress that face,
A message of my love.
Elixir of my soul,
This tiny Miki-chan.
The thought of no more you,
Is cause enough for angst.
For all this angst I feel, is due to the great love,
That glows upon my face, for you my Miki-chan.
I care for you deeply, oh bearer of my soul.
My very first Sestina! ^_^ It wasn't as hard as it sounded though I think the sound is still a little rough, but what do you want from a first draft eh? It'll eventually get better ne? And besides, there's also a pretty strict syllable pattern in my Sestina when technically a sestina doesn't have to have any kind of syllabic pattern. I'm trying mostly for an iambic hexameter here--I have the triameter part--even right down to the last 3 lines (which all have 12 syllables--or two sets of triameters), but I think the iambic part is still a bit rusty :/ I need more practice with this iambic thing, knowing whether or not the words are truely falling unstressed stressed or if it's just my imagination heheh. This was fun. And if you hadn't caught on, this was a poem for my son, Michael whom I tend to call Miki-chan or Mikiru-chan which is a kind of Japanese nickname. I don't know if Mikiru is an actual Japanese name, but it sounds like one, and it is close to the English Michael so I use that as his little cutey-pie nickname ^_~
