Write This! Sunday 1/12 Assignment: List the events or people from the following that interest you...
newspaper
history
post cards
online journals
your own life
Pick a couple to freewrite on and see what happens. When one really catches up, write a short story or scene.
Newspaper: I bought a few papers to fill this one 'cause I normally don't read the paper, but now, I think I may pick one up more often ^_^
*Shortage on Type O Bloods
*The real face of human cloning (inevitability of it and the 'gallery of horrors' cloning creates due to too many genes being active in the genetic makeup when some should be silent)
*On Jan,18, 1912, English Explorer, Robert F. Scott and his expedition reached the South Pole (of all places), only to discover that Roald Amundsen had gotten there first. Scott and his men died on the return home.
*Mentoring (Big Brothers/Big Sisters)
*Poe grave visitor mystery
*Indiana college mural creates controversy but won't be taken down (object of it is Indiana History, and there are bad parts to it whether we wish to see them or not--mural has a spot with KKK members burning a cross on it)
*Student college party in Texas in honor of Black History month is trying to be stopped by school board as the theme of the party is to act black and think ghetto, encouraging students to mimic any stereotypes while at the party. Fliers in the Hall dormitory state "Think Ghetto"

*Goldie (my great grandmother who was full blooded, grew up on a reservation Cherokee)
*Domynoe (another online writing correspondence and friend)
*Butch (a slightly annoying, repetitive, but kind of fun regular that comes into Steak-n-Shake for coffee all the time).
I suppose that's enough people for now ^_^
My list of what I might write about:
*Robert F. Scott and the South Pole incident
*My Great-great grandmother Oscie
*My cousin Ryan
*My cousin David
*My current fiancé's life
*My encounter with almost technically molestation
*Me and my ex's relationship from start to finish
*Me and my cat Cally's relationship
*Sam (my roommates' son)
*My past lives
*The origin of my tornadoe phobia
*Dealing with the worst (so far) of my mom's disease
*The Oracles of Greece
*My Honor Star Graduation
*My first premonition
*My anxiety attack
*Mulan
*The bombings of Nagasaki and/or Hiroshima
I'll stop there for the first list. But I'll add a different list not required that the exercise made me think of...
Character types I might use in a future work: Katy, Jim (the waiter), Butch, Ryan (a cousin of mine), and David (the other cousin). Those other people do interest me, but these people stick out as different the most to me for one reason or another. They have very unique personalities, some in a very wierd way, such as Katy and Jim haha.
Final List For This Exercise:
*Robert F. Scott and the South Pole Incident
*My Honor Star Graduation
*Me and Cally's relationship
*My GGGrandma, Oscie
Plot Points: Process of elimination by length of story proposed.
*Robert F. Scott and the South Pole Incident Robert and Roald setting off for discovery, finding the South Pole, defeat, death on the way home. (4 Plot points)
*Honor Star Graduation: The Ceremony, the slight that hurt, The Explanation given, the failing of a test, the forging of a more personal spiritual life. (5 plot points)
*Me and Cally's Relationship: Bonding (showing of our relationship), the parting and the cold night, the crying and aching of missing her over the years/reflections, The revelation, the reunion. (5 points)
*My Grandma, Oscie: Winning the pageant, using the grant, becoming the teacher, The onset of Schizophrenia, an end to it all (5 points).
The shortest one in plot points is the first, but I think it would end up the longest to get the point across and explain things without an info dump, the last two, I think would end up too long as well. I'd like to write about me and Cally, but the first is pulling at me the most, structuring itself out--I can almost hear the last lines. So, I think I'll write about my Honor Star Graduation. Prepare to read about the worst humiliation in my life, and trust me, it's nothing to laugh about (nobody did).
So this isn't too intimidating to readers, I'm going to post the actual story in a different entry ^_~
