An Old Friend
March 7 ,2007

::Based on the prompt in Voices for this month.::

At last, one of my searches comes to a close, in a most unexpected fashion! Of all the things I have experienced, it boggles me that I let myself be caught so off-guard by the truth of this matter. An old companion, in the form of a wolf, has come to my side once more. And the workings of the universe show how intricate they can be! Tempest, as I called her, never spoke, she showed plenty of evidence that she was just as intelligent as I, though a language barrier existed between us. This she-wolf is in fact, no wolf at all!

Throughout my life, Tempest has come and gone, and I always knew she would return, I could feel her even when she wasn't there. The last time she disappeared, I was not as certain. It is odd, to stare at this being, a humanoid with tales, cloven hooves and horns like a ram, pale skin like a full moon with a blueish hue. It was odd to see her lying there, in need of healing and know that this was Tempest. My spirit sister, as she put it...I cannot remember the erudian words she used, her language. So beautiful to hear, she spoke even in stilted Darnassian to me upon waking, recognizing me just as I had recognized her.

How could I not have known that this treasured companion of so long was a shaman all along. Her real name, now that we speak, is Ianoras Enkilzar, and odd enough, in her experience, her travels with me were dreams to her. She could not even master the wolf-form yet, had no idea of her future when she first began to dream of me. She was certain of her destiny the moment she heard of the shaman path, she could do nothing but. To her, the dreams of me were more than a dream, as real as she was by my side.

It's funny how something like this can cross the boundaries of worlds. So many times she has been there when I needed her, I could reach out and touch her slightly ethereal coat of wolfish fur and yet she was alseep the whole time on Draenor or in the space ship that recently crash landed. It was amongst the debris that I found her, my spirit knew I needed to be here and though my mind did not fully realize it, as soon as I saw her, I knew what to do. I picked her up out of the debris and carried her to safety, helping in any way I could to nurse her back to health. I still find it places me in awe to think of it. To me, it seems so simple a thing, I knew it all along in my heart, and yet at the same exact moment how on Azeroth would one suspect that their animal companion was a being dreaming of you on a completely different planet? This simple and yet complex demonstration of just a few threads really puts the whole tapestry of the universe into greater clarity for me, and I find myself in awe.
